El campo lleva el nombre de Ramón Secades, vecino de Langreo que empezó a jugar en 1962 en el recién fundado San Esteban de Ciaño, entró después en su junta directiva y una década más tarde asumió la presidencia. El Ayuntamiento de Langreo rebautizó el campo con su nombre en reconocimiento a esa trayectoria. El San Esteban de Ciaño, club asociado al campo, agrupaba según la prensa regional a unos 70 futbolistas desde categoría alevín hasta juvenil.
