Setting up Cantera in Badgie: seasons, teams, squads, shirt numbers and coaching staff
How to switch on the football module (Cantera) and build your club's sporting structure: teams by season, category and level, affiliate teams, squads with position and shirt number, captain and coaching staff.

Quick answer
Badgie's football module is called Cantera and you switch it on from Customize your Badgie (at the bottom of the side menu). Once it is on, the CANTERA group appears in the menu; in Teams you create each team with its category, level, gender and season, and inside each team you manage the squad (position, shirt number and captain), the coaching staff, the schedule, competition, stats, rival clubs and the coach's notes.

Where to find it
- Activation: Customize your Badgie (at the bottom of the side menu, or MANAGEMENT › Modules) › Catalog › Cantera module («Sport & competition» category).
- Side menu › CANTERA › Teams: the list of the club's teams (/dashboard/football).
- Each team has its own page with the tabs Squad, Schedule, Competition, Stats, Rival clubs and Coach Notes.
- Once Cantera is on, the same group brings together Players, Coaches, Training, Call-ups, Behaviour, Attendance, Competition, Cards, Album and Attributes. Badgie then talks about players, coaches and training sessions instead of students, teachers and classes.
Step by step
1. Switch on Cantera
- Open Customize your Badgie from the bottom of the side menu (or MANAGEMENT › Modules).
- In Catalog, find the Cantera module («Enable the Cantera module to manage your football club's squad structure, rosters, matches and player cards») and switch it on: its status changes to Active.
- The CANTERA group appears in the menu. If you link a team to a federation (RFFM, FFCV or RFAF), Cantera switches itself on.
2. Create the season's teams
- Go to CANTERA › Teams and click New squad.
- Fill in Name (for example «U16 A»), Category (U6 · Bebé, U8 · Pre-Benjamín, U10 · Benjamín, U12 · Alevín, U14 · Infantil, U16 · Cadete, U18 · Juvenil, Senior, Veterans or free text), Age group (free text, such as «2010-2011»), Level (A, B, C, D, 1ª, 2ª, 3ª or Single), Gender (Male, Female or Mixed) and Season (format 2026/27).
- Always choose the Season: the field starts empty (the «2025/26» you see is only an example) and a team without a season shows up in every season.
- If it is an affiliate team, choose its Parent squad («Assign to a parent squad if this is an affiliate (e.g. B team)»).
The Teams list shows how many teams and players there are, with filters for season, category, level, gender and coach, and match columns: PL (planned for the season), PY (played), PD (pending), W, D and L (won, drawn and lost). The download button exports the structure to Excel.

3. Build the squad: position, shirt number and captain
- Open a team and, in Squad, click Add players. Badgie lists the club's active players (you can filter by Smart Tag); select them and click Add (N).
- In the table, choose each player's Position (Goalkeeper, Defender, Midfielder or Forward), enter their Number (from 1 to 99) and tick the Captain.
- The Squad numbers button opens all of the team's shirt numbers at once and warns you if any are repeated («Repeated numbers: …»). The warning does not block anything: the decision is yours.
- To take someone off the team, use the bin icon («Remove from squad»): the player stays in the club.

4. Add the coaching staff
- On the same tab, click Add person, choose the Person and their Role: Head coach, Coach, Fitness coach, Goalkeeper coach, Physio, Doctor, Analyst, Scout, Team manager, Monitor, Nutritionist, Sport director, Volunteer or Other.
- Use the star to mark the person in charge of the team («Make squad lead»).
- Anyone without a coach account in Badgie is listed as «Squad sheet only»: they appear on the team, but calendar sessions are not assigned to them.
5. Complete the team
- Schedule: the last month and the next four, with Create training (days, times, from/to dates and calendar name; the squad is enrolled automatically and the coaching staff is assigned) and New match. See the matches and calendar guide.
- Rival clubs: a record for each opponent with ground, address, kits and contact details per season.
- Coach Notes: notes on the team and its players, showing who has read each one.
Seasons and the active season
- The season is a property of each team (for example 2026/27). A club has teams from several seasons at once: last season's teams remain as history, with their matches and stats.
- The season filter in Teams, Competition, Album and Attributes starts on the current season according to the calendar (the season changes in August).
- Stats, the AI agent and the Cantera views treat the most recent season among the club's teams as the active season.
What players and families see
- The team, shirt number and position appear on call-ups, on the match sheet and on the album cards.
- Families do not see the club's internal structure or the coach's private notes.
- In the app, players and their families see their team's matches and training sessions in the calendar.
By format
- 7-a-side, 8-a-side and 11-a-side football use the same structure. There is no format field: many clubs write it in Age group or in the team name, and the formation is chosen for each match (see the match shapes guide).
- Women's and mixed football: set with Gender and filterable in the team list.
- Affiliate teams (B, C…): linked with Parent squad and shown as «affiliate of …».
With the AI agent
Badgie's AI Team looks up the structure with real tools: `get_squad_roster` (squad), `get_squad_staff` (coaching staff) and `get_squad_schedule` (team schedule). It can also propose changes that the club approves before they are applied: `create_football_squad` (create a team with name, season, category and gender) and `add_football_player` (add a player). It does not create matches or link federations.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Cantera cost?
Cantera is a club module: you switch it on from Customize your Badgie. Plan prices are at badgie.es/precios.
Can a player be in two teams?
Yes. A player can be in the squad of more than one team (for example, their own team and the one in the age group above) and in teams from different seasons; their player record brings it all together.
What happens if I repeat a shirt number?
Badgie warns you in the Squad numbers window but does not stop you. The match sheet and the call-up show whatever number each player has.
Does the coaching staff need a Badgie account?
Not to appear on the team. To have sessions assigned, make call-ups and use the coach app, they do need a coach account.
How do I start the next season?
Create the teams with the new season (or let the federation bring them in) and add their squads. Last season's teams are kept with their history.
